Chartered Ferry Service Launched Between Aerial Bay, Gandhi Nagar & Smith Island in Diglipur

In a significant step towards improving transportation and island connectivity, the Directorate of Shipping Services (DSS), Andaman & Nicobar Administration, has introduced a new 50-passenger chartered ferry service connecting Aerial Bay, Gandhi Nagar, and Smith Island in Diglipur.

The new service has been launched under a recently signed charter agreement with private operators as part of the Administration's ongoing efforts to enhance the reliability, accessibility, and efficiency of ferry transportation across the islands.

The inaugural flag-off ceremony was held at Aerial Bay Jetty, where the service was formally launched in the presence of Shri Santosh Prakash, Assistant Commissioner, Diglipur, along with PRI members, officials from the Directorate of Shipping Services, and local residents.

According to the Directorate of Shipping Services, the newly introduced ferry service is expected to significantly improve daily transportation for commuters, tourists, and residents travelling between Aerial Bay, Gandhi Nagar, and Smith Island. The initiative is aimed at providing dependable ferry connectivity while supporting tourism and strengthening public transport infrastructure in the Diglipur region.

The Directorate also clarified that the introduction of the chartered ferry will not affect the existing passenger ticket fares. Ferry ticket prices will continue to be regulated and notified by the Directorate of Shipping Services, ensuring that passengers can continue to travel at the approved government fares.

Officials stated that the Administration remains committed to expanding reliable ferry services across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, improving connectivity, and enhancing transportation facilities for both residents and visitors.
