Government Announces Financial Assistance for Pashu Aushadhi Vikray Kendras

The Government of India has introduced a new scheme to encourage the establishment of Pashu Aushadhi Vikray Kendras (PAVKs), dedicated veterinary medicine outlets that will provide affordable and quality animal healthcare products across the country. The initiative is part of the Livestock Health and Disease Control Programme (LHDCP) and aims to improve access to veterinary medicines, especially in rural, remote, island, and underserved regions.

Under the scheme, eligible Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samriddhi Kendras (PM-KSKs) and registered cooperative societies can set up these veterinary medicine centres after fulfilling the prescribed eligibility criteria. Applicants must have adequate commercial space, a qualified registered pharmacist, and a valid drug licence issued by the respective State Drug Control Authority.

To promote wider participation, the Government will provide attractive financial incentives. Store operators will be eligible for a 20% trade margin on the sale of veterinary medicines. In addition, a one-time financial assistance of ₹1.5 lakh will be offered to Kendras established in aspirational districts, hilly areas, island territories, and northeastern states.

The scheme also includes a performance-based monthly incentive of up to ₹20,000, encouraging store operators to maintain sufficient stock and ensure regular availability of medicines for livestock owners.

These Kendras will mainly supply affordable generic veterinary medicines through the Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI). Besides medicines, approved ethno-veterinary products and certified animal feed will also be available, making the centres a one-stop solution for livestock healthcare needs.

Officials believe the initiative will reduce the cost of animal treatment, improve the availability of veterinary medicines, create rural employment opportunities, and support entrepreneurship through cooperative institutions and PM-KSKs.
